A dental veneer is a thin shell made from porcelain or composite resin that is custom-made to fit over the tooth's front surface. Veneers are designed to match the shape of your teeth perfectly and blend in seamlessly with your smile. They cover imperfections like stains and cracks, minor misalignments, and gaps between teeth.
At Danny Shiri DDS, our dentist uses veneers to treat various cosmetic issues, including chipped teeth, stained or discolored teeth, worn down teeth, and uneven or irregularly shaped teeth. Veneers are designed to look like your natural teeth, and your treatment is customized to ensure the desired results. With proper care, veneers can last for many years.
Porcelain veneers, as the name suggests, are made from porcelain. This material is highly durable, stain-resistant, and closely resembles natural tooth enamel. Porcelain veneers require some tooth preparation and are typically fabricated in a dental laboratory before being bonded to the teeth.
These veneers are made from tooth-colored composite resin material and require minimal tooth preparation. However, they are less resistant than porcelain veneers and may not last as long.
During the initial consultation, our dentist will evaluate your oral health, discuss your cosmetic goals, and determine if veneers suit you. They will explain the treatment's benefits, limitations, and expected outcomes.
To place the veneers, a thin layer of enamel is typically removed from the front surface of the teeth to create the necessary space. For composite resin veneers, minimal preparation or reshaping of the teeth may be necessary. After the teeth are prepared, impressions or digital scans of your teeth are taken. Based on these, the lab can fabricate custom veneers that match the desired shape, size, and color.
While the permanent veneers are manufactured in the dental laboratory, temporary veneers may be placed to protect the prepared teeth and provide a temporary aesthetic solution. Once the permanent veneers are ready, our dentist will remove the temporary veneers and bond the custom-made veneers to the front surface of the teeth using dental adhesive. Any necessary adjustments will be made to ensure proper fit and aesthetics.
Proper care and maintenance are crucial to ensuring the longevity and aesthetics of veneers. This includes regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups.
